Sayward Schoonmaker’s solo exhibition See you soon, or not. One of those. plunders known platitudes for their undervalued emotional knowledges, both painful and complex. Her work identifies the artifice in love and longing of socially constructed clichés in order to strike with pluck at the middle ground between irony and earnestness. Through sound, printed text, video, and drawing, Schoonmaker utilizes established poetic devices, where words are fickle and fluid, to offer a queerer place from which to contemplate tender emotions.

The reception for See you soon, or not. One of those. will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Lease Agreement, 3718 Ellerslie Ave, Baltimore, Maryland. Schoonmaker will give a reading during the opening that will begin at 7:30pm. The exhibition runs from April 27 to May 25. Gallery hours are by appointment and can be requested by contacting Lease Agreement at leaseagreementbaltimore@gmail.com.
