Potato chips, dog hair, chairs, tables, voicemails, dead mice, ChapStick, a bleached pride flag: this accumulation of everyday life is the inspirational source and artistic material with which Jennifer Gustavson constructs her work. In her solo exhibition, One Day This Will All Be Yours, Gustavson has created a playful site specific installation that mixes her idiosyncratic personal items and studio-made objects with belongings culled from the curators' living space. The objects in the work exhibited here balance between their formal qualities and affective power through depersonalizing, but not de-emotionalizing, systems such as stacking and ordering. Gustavson's work highlights the imprint of life on the objects we own while simultaneously representing the weight that these inheritances have on life.
The reception for One Day This Will All Be Yours will be held on Saturday, March 2, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Lease Agreement, 3718 Ellerslie Ave, Baltimore, Maryland. The exhibition runs from March 2 to 31. Gallery hours are by appointment and can be requested by contacting Lease Agreement at firstname.lastname@example.org.
